Let’s start with what I really want to build here. A community where we can all share ideas and experiences. I am going to use a lot of shorthand words. I will try and offer as much detail as I can. So let’s start with TTRPG

TTRPG Recommendations

This isn’t just going to be games I recommend, but there will be a lot of them. I am going to recommend books I haven’t read and games I haven’t played. That’s a bit odd, so you don’t have to take my opinion here. But I do watch a lot of games and listen to people talk about games, so I will share my opinion here

My actual favorite game to run is Pathfinder 2e. It’s probably not the first game I would recommend, but here it is first on my list. It’s the first game I ever played. It’s a d20 game, but it’s so much more than that. It’s swords and sorcery, it’s an amazingly built world, and it has incredible pre-built content to help you run games. It’s great for beginners that want to play a rules heavy game.

I love Call of Cthulu. It’s so fun to play humans in a supernatural world. And the balance in a d100 system is so much fun. If you don’t know, this is mainly based on the writings of HP Lovecraft (questionable past to say the least). If you don’t want to support it because of him, all the power to you. There were also a lot of other writers that have had their hands on this topic at this point. I think it’s evolved far past him. This game is a blast and has been around for almost 50 years.

Dungeons and Dragons 5e is a major go for people. I have played this game a lot. I love it. Very similar to Pathfinder, with an amazing world and pre-built content. This is a huge franchise. There are also older editions that people have a blast with. When I say OSR, it really comes from a DnD, and 2nd edition DnD.

Let’s get a book in here. The Lazy Dungeon Master by Micheal Shea. I will be honest. I have not read this. But I have heard it recommended by some great DMs, one of my favorites being Jared Logan. He went into a deep dive awhile back and it really impacted the way I plan and prep for all of my games now. I highly recommend it.

I have only listened to people play Pendragon, but I own a few books and I absolutely love everything about it. Watch Brian Holland run it and you will not be disappointed. It’s a fun game, using Arthurian lore and knighthood to build some incredibly cool stories. It’s rules heavy for sure. I look forward to running it!
